Rehearsal:

Rehearsal July 1972 Text below is what I posted on the fecc forum and details my research into the proper date of the rehearsal that includes True love travels, Fever, My way and Portrait of my love.

Thanks to Hillcrest blues cd I do think that the year for the Portrait of my love rehearsal is 1972 (I suspect near August but I am not sure of that). Some people think rehearsal comes from different years. I don't think so. The sound and noise is consistent over the whole recording. And I always knew that the short piece of Elvis singing "You're feeling lonely" was from a song. I could never figure out which one. But during the March 1972 rehearsal he sings "Anytime you're feelin' lonely" and the correct title is listed. This excerpt is right before True love travels on a gravel road. Elvis did sing the excerpt in March 72 which makes it more then likely the rehearsal was not much sooner or later in the year. My way was sung live for the very first time during the August 1972 Vegas shows.

There is also a one liner of Don't in the rehearsal!
Somebody can give me the name of the song at 21.28 ?

The following is evidence that points towards a very likely date for the whole True love travels and portrait of my love rehearsal at the end of July 1972.

1) at 1 min 51 seconds: Elvis says: "No no, it comes at the second time Ronnie"
second time Ronnie
(mp3 starts at 1:45, so the comment is 6 seconds into the mp3.)

In Jan 1970 Elvis needed a drummer to fill in for Ronnie Tutt. This was because the Colonel didn't inform Ronnie that Elvis would be returning to Vegas after August 1969. Ronnie had a contract with Mike Post who was musical director for 'Andy Williams' at the time on NBC TV which had to be fulfilled. However, Ronnie was able to return for the start of the third season in August 1970. Therefore the True love travels can't be recorded in January 1970 since Ronnie wasn't there! Source

2) 5 min 13 seconds (from the start of the recording) right AFTER The first time. Elvis says: "are we straight at that true love sh.t?"
mp3 that starts at 5:00 min. The true love sh.t comment is at 13 seconds. After that you can hear Elvis talking about Can't stop loving you and You gave me a mountain. Which means that he just did True love travels and The first time ever I saw your face part of the recording can NOT be in a different year then the True love travels part.
No tape cut(s) between the songs.
Elvis talking about at 1:12 min into this mp3 about Guercio and Elvis "I've been walking (?) for 6 months now"

3) Another interesting comment at 16:00 minutes into the rehearsal recording Elvis says:
"the 29th ten o clock I will have this show together, somehow. We haven't failed yet".
29th of what month and what year?
(starting timecode 15:55)

4) at: 17 minutes 00 seconds you can hear a bit off mic someone singing: "Love is" (a stranger and hearts are in danger) just 15 seconds before Elvis comments: "Oh yeah, Fever. The foghouse". Again giving evidence to the fact it is of the same rehearsal as the True love travels part.

5) The end of Fever, then goes into Elvis saying "bid you an affectionate" then the bluesy bit with female backing ending into pianosolo that FLUENTLY goes over into Portrait of my love. At sample level I can't find any tapecut. Tapecuts made with tape in the 80s are very visible when you zoom in with an audio program.
Fever into Portrait of my love

6) the rendition, the drumming and Elvis' voice sound different:
(please verify using the cd of the opening show and the version of this rehearsal. Due to size I am unable to include the full versions here.

Here's the full rundown of the rehearsal based on timecode:
